Odd jobs and cleanup April 14th

Two of the families here wanted to go for a walk in the national forest just behind us, so I made them a walking map.  They wanted to listen to the grouse drumming.  It is great with kids to let them experience things like that.  The kids will definatly get a big smile when they hear the drumming and try to determine the direction it is coming from.  Things are getting back to normal, of you can call it that, around here.  The snow is melting and we started to do some more raking. I rented a power broom, and we were really making a lot of headway on the piles of gravel left by the snowplows. Half way through the property the power broom broke. I took it back to the rental shop and they said it would be a week before it is fixed.

They are calling for more snow this week. It is getting cold each night, so the ice stops thawing 1/2 the day.

I went to Detroit Lakes and bought 2 new docks, both roll-a-docks, with aluminum decking to match our others. One of the docks has an L, I’m sure the guests will appreciate it.   Eric Enquist came with me to help dismantle and load them on my trailer.

We hired 2 full time guys last week, to help get stuff done. Deb is working diligentlyon doing the spring cleanup to the cabins. She is always looking at new cleaners, and she is getting more [green] cleaners. She is putting up main window curtains in cabins 16-19.  She is applying epoxy to 2 new log tables I made recently, they will be going in #6, and #3a.

Spring cleanup April 8th

The weather is starting to get warmer.  The kids are still playing in the indoor pool.  The families that are here want to go to Itasca state park, so I am giving them driving directions.      I got a call from my mom last week.   She went into the hospital, and asked me to come see her.  The next day I flew out of Bemidji, and went to Appleton Wis.   I was with her for 2 days, then she passed away.  We will miss her.   While I was gone Deb got 24 inches of snow.   She was a little frantic, as my plow was off the truck already, and the truck was parked at the airport.   She had a company come for those 2 days and clean up the snow in the resort.   Deb and Aaron drove to Wisconsin to be at the funeral, and the 3 of us drove back together.    Deb and I are delegates on the Congress of Minnesota resorters group.   During the time out of town the resorters held their Spring conference.    We were supposed to help run the conference.  Sorry this kind of rambles, as I am still in a daze.     Jim
